Feeling Powerless? 5 Things you CAN Do!

Updated: Apr 15, 2020

Right now is the right time to focus on You... your health and well being. The Corona Virus outbreak has caused an upheaval in all areas of life: Health, lifestyle, social, work, financial just to name a few. Most of us feel powerless....like there is nothing we can do.

I'm here to tell you that you have more power than you might realize.

This is the time to put the oxygen mask on yourself first and take a deep breath. You need to help yourself before you can help someone else.

Try these 5 things to help you feel better, less stressed, more energized, stronger, and like you have more control.

Breathe: Breathing is both automatic and something that you can take control of. Breathing deeply and slowly starts our parasympathetic system's response to calm our body down.

Focusing on our breathing helps clear our minds and prepare us for mediation or prayer.

Breathing correctly helps me to connect to my spirit within. It is when I take a deep breath and exhale that I surrender the hold my body has on me and I melt into my spiritual center. It is magical!

Meditate: Quieting your mind helps ease stress, release resistance, and connects you to your inner self/spiritual core. Meditating helps relieve stress and anxiety, boosts creativity, increases energy, has numerous benefits... and it's FREE!! You can do it anywhere and anytime.

I meditate every morning to center myself. I meditate before I write or work on anything creative. And I meditate every lunch hour ( even if it's for 5') that I am working in my Physical Therapy office.

Meditating makes my thoughts more clear, helps me relax, helps me let go of resistance, gives me energy, and be bring my best to every situation.

Boost Your Immune System: Even if you aren't sick it is imperative to take care of yourself so that you can strengthen your immune system in case you get exposed to any viruses or illnesses.

Some things that I am doing is taking probiotics and adding supplements with "immuno boosters" (Vitamin C with Zinc, Ecchinacea, Astragalus, Aronia Berry) to my protein shakes.

Drink... drink... and drink some more. Drink water, water with lemon. Drink warm drinks, especially to help kill viruses. Fluids help keep you hydrated and healthy while helping to flush out toxins from your system.

Exercise: Do whatever type of exercise feels good to you. Take a walk. Do yoga. Stretch. Play your favorite sport : tennis, golf, volleyball.

Just make sure to warm up gradually and dynamically. Use good sense. And stretch for 10' or more after you finish. You will feel SOOOO good when you are done.

Sleep Well: Turn off tv and social devices two hours prior to bed time to help release the chatter in your mind. Just before going to sleep think of one thing that you are genuinely grateful for ( i.e. that my family is healthy today... that I have time to connect with my kids... that it is a beautiful day...for my favorite song). Whatever it is, thinking of one thing that you are grateful for changes the vibration within your body and helps you release the resistance of the day.

First thing in the morning, have a few minutes of quiet time. This is the time we are best able to hear what our inner guide is telling us. Thoughts are clear at this time. Solutions to problems appear first thing in the morning. Ideas of the next great project emerge. Keep something to write by your bedside to help remember these. There are tremendous ideas and resources that come right when you wake up that will help you throughout the rest of the day.

Solid sleep is also important because it is during your REM sleep that your immune system gains strength and repairs itself.

We might not be able to control what is going on in the world around us. But, there are things we CAN do to help us thrive despite what is happening.

Take care of yourself. You are important. You... being healthy and strong is vital.

I hope this serves you. Breathe. Smile. All is well. All will be well.
